The Gilbert & Sullivan Society Summer Camp

The Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Bermuda aims to inspire the next generation of performers to explore their talent and craft through an exciting and entertaining Summer Camp. The camp offers kids the opportunity to work with trained performers to learn numerous art-forms such as; comedy, physical theatre, improv, and many other skills they need to become better performers. Blending fun with education, every activity is designed to teach the kids useful tools for both on, and off, the stage.

We are delighted to see so many of our past campers shine in the annual Gilbert & Sullivan Society shows year after year, with a number of our former campers being cast in featured roles in “THE WIZARD OF OZ” (2017), and “ANNIE” (2018).

The camps will be held at the Bermuda School of Music on Berkeley Road in Pembroke Parish. Each session will end with a performance on the final Friday evening at Warwick Academy in Warwick.

The G&S Summer camp has hosted an impressive array of industry professionals to run our camp in the past, with well-known local artists taking the helm, to impart wisdom and experience on the campers.

Information below shows camp leaders in previous years.

Joel Froomkin will be the leader of the first two camp sessions. Joel is excited to return to the island and share his love of theater with young Bermudians. For the past eight years he has served as founding Artistic Director of The New Huntington Theater and Different Stages, a regional theater based in Indiana. He and his partner renovated a historic vaudeville theater and have produced over thirty shows at the venue, including their acclaimed MainStage productions of The Sound of Music and Les Miserables. Joel has directed to productions for the Bermuda Festival, "The Unexpected Man” and The “Tempest". In 2006 Joel received the Best Director award at the NY Fringe Festival. He has recently served as the Director of Drama at Manchester University and previously taught speech and dialects at NYU/Tisch School of the Arts.

The second camp will be run by Daniel Frith. Daniel attended the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, where he received a BFA in Drama. He has taught drama on the island every summer since 1996. He was a member of the John F. Kennedy Centers' resident acting company, and performed in many national tours across the USA and in Washington D.C. Some of his credits include Leading Ladies at Fords Theatre (with Tony Winner Karen Ziemba), His one-man show, "The Dumb Class" at The Kennedy Center, multiple shows with nationally renowned Woolly Mammoth Theatre company, Signature Theatre, Actor's Theatre of Louisville, Perseverance Theatre in Juneau, Alaska, to name a few. He has been featured on various national commercials in the US, and on NBC's Law and Order: Special Victim's Unit.

To be eligible for camp enrolment, applicant should be a member of G & S.

Places will be awarded on a first come first served basis. No refunds are given 10 business days or less prior to the session’s start. Minimum enrolment numbers may apply.

Completed application and payment in full must be submitted upon registration either via e-mail to or to P.O. Box HM 3098, Hamilton HMBX in order to secure the applicant's place in the camp.
